We visited family who own a Wii on the weekend, (Hunny got his ass whipped by his 5 year old nephew and it was just the coolest thing ever. I played one game of tennis and I was hooked. It’s the most cheerful interface I’ve ever seen. You create you little Mii character, and he dances around and gets all happy when you win: too cute.

Anyways, yesterday afternoon Hunny went out and bought me one! I love this guy! Played for about 4 hours last night, and by an amazing stroke of luck I had leave booked for today anyways (get some of the things done that are queuing up on my to do list) so guess what I’ve been doing all morning? Love it love it love it! Not sure so much of that list is going to get done today, but I really do have to go and pick up my bank card: my old one expired at the end of January…

Oh, and on a side note, I got my Google Analytics stats this morning, I have 8 click-throughs from blogspace.mweb.co.za, but I don’t know whos blog it’s from. If you are one of the folks who has been referred from mweb blogs please leave a comment and let me know how you found me? Just curious is all, all traffic is good traffic

One more thing, I didn’t give link credit to my friend who took the bike-jacket photo’s on Friday, that was Black Macros. For some deep thinking and a side of humor go pay him a visit.

Gotta go do some wii-boxing now, cheers!

In March last year I made a mad last minute dash to save my gym membership. More detail on my old blog. I managed to get the required number of visits in, and my membership lived to go un-used another year (well, just about).

March is fast approaching and I look set to repeat that mad dash, but this time I am wondering if it’s worth it. It’s clear that I’m not using my membership. In fact, if I were to suddenly acquire an extra hour a day, the gym is not where I would spend it. I enjoy physical activity, but there are at least two other incarnations of physical activity that I prefer to do over anything I can do in a gym.

I have said more than once that if I ever gave up horse-riding I’d take up rock-climbing. Something about hanging by your fingertips from an artificial wall appeals to me. Genuine cliffs, not so sure about that…

Another thing I have dabbled in previously, and wouldn’t mind taking up again is some form of martial art. 5 years ago I started karate. I had just completed a self-defense course. The instructor was charming and was starting an adult-beginner course of karate. I enjoyed it, but it was out of my way and it became a schlep to head in the opposite direction from work, home and horse twice a week. Also, I would rather have done kick-boxing than karate. Just recently, 3 blocks from home, a kick-boxing school has opened up: first lesson free. I’d love to start that again, but I want to be sure that I can commit to the time.

With both of these options available, is it worth it to rescue the gym membership again? Really? I don’t know …

Well, that’s what I keep telling myself…

In an uncharacteristically energetic moment yesterday morning I pulled some weights I got for Christmas 4 years ago and added a little extra exercise to my day. I never have been much of a gym person, and have rather little time to spare at the moment, so I decided to do a mini routine at home.

Armed with a 2kg weight (starting light) I did some twist and touch your toes thingies, some hold your head and bend sideways thingies, and without the weights some jackknife crunches and leg raises. I’m sure those first two thingies have proper names, but I don’t know them …

Well, I can feel it today! My hamstrings, <strike>butt</strike> glutes and the little muscles hiding under my love handles hurt from the twisting & touching toes exercise, my sides hurt from the hold your head & bend sideways exercise, and my tummy can feel the crunches and leg raises … But this is all good stuff? If it hurts that means you worked it right?

The sore sides are particularly amusing while driving. Every time I go round a corner I wince, because apparently you use those to stay sitting upright while turning corners. Who knew?
